…There are quite a few thought-provoking American films, which are very dear to me because I was raised on them.
Here is a list of them:
These films are the first ones that popped in my head, and of course Dostoyevsky ala Hollywood, Edge of Doom (1955) / Край гибели.
But watching them, you have to realize that they are produced not to baffle the viewer with originality, but to lovingly and artistically convey deep and simple thought—not to confuse people, but soften the heart.
It is fashionable nowdays to dismiss the simple tales and thereby lose human warmth.
Update:
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) / Эта замечательная жизнь
One Hundred Men and a Girl (1937) / Сто мужчин и одна девушка
La forza del destino (1950) / Сила судьбы
